Process Inquiry

The activities associated with the receiving and responding to customer inquiries. This includes responding to inquiries on product availability, lead times, transportation costs.

Use cases

  • Inquiry in product availability (stock)
  • Request for a quote for product; quotation of the total cost (price and transportation costs) for a delivery under an existing contract or general terms and conditions
  • Order status inquiry

Notes

Inquiries within the Supply Chain domain differ from inquiries in the Sales & Support domain. A Sales & Support inquiry is an inquiry to establish a relationship between the Buying and Selling parties. This relationship is in many industries established by means of a contract. Process Inquiry generally occurs after such relationship is established. Activities –such as quotations to non-customers– are typically not included in this process.

A quotation may or may not reserve inventory until the quote expires. Distribution Costs Order Management Cost Available-To-Promise Quote-to-Cash Inquiry-to-Order Request for Quote Quotation Incoterms
