The activities associated with the handling and movement of product (materials, semi-finished product, goods, merchandize) to a storage location. This includes determining the optimal storage location, assigning equipment and operators and recording the associated inventory transactions.

An important part of a S2 process is the ability to track the order specifics. This requires the inventory to be recorded using a reference to the purchase order number, production order number or customer order number. This inventory is typically considered Sales Order Stock.

Use Cases

Notes

This process is complete when the product has been deposited in an inventory location. If multiple movements are required then each of these movements are a unique instance of the Put Away process. Generally, moving product to on/near production line storage is considered part of Transfer and/or Make. For such use cases the put away may consist of a notification only (ready for transfer).
