Just-In-Sequence (JIS) adds delivering materials in the sequence of consumption to the Just-In-Time (JIT) practice. Typically applied to assembly line production processes, JIS requires the Supplier to deliver the materials in the sequence of the production schedule of the Manufacturer. The following elements are typically required to implement Just-In-Sequence:
The practice reduces the risk of picking errors and/or time spent on searching for the right materials by material handlers or assembly workers and is implemented to reduce inventory, storage and handling costs.
The Just-In-Sequence practice originated in the automotive industry.
