The activities associated with the handling and movement of product (materials, semi-finished product, goods, merchandize) to a storage location. This includes determining the optimal storage location, assigning equipment and operators and recording the associated inventory transactions.
Storage of Engineer-to-Order materials may require special instructions and/or storage locations.
This process is complete when the product has been deposited in an inventory location. If multiple movements are required then each of these movements are a unique instance of the Put Away process. Generally, moving product to on/near production line storage is considered part of Transfer and Make. For such use cases the put away may consist of a notification only (ready for transfer).
