The intensity of resources required ('taken in') to operate the supply chain and resources required for related overhead. All processes in a supply chain may require resources. Consider: energy resources required to ship finished goods through the distribution network, climate control warehouses, etc.

Intake resources include, but are not limited to:

+ Energy |+ Services
  • Raw materials
  • Packaging materials
  • Catalysts
  • Water
  • Wind
  • Solar
  • Waste
  • Electricity
  • Natural Gas
  • Oil
  • 3PM Manufacturing
  • 3PL Logistics
  • Call Center

Calculation

Intake Sustainability Ratio
=
SWI + SEI + SMI + SSI
n
where: Unit of Measure: %

Notes

  • All supply chains typically have intake of energy, materials, and services, but not always (industrial) water. If no (significant) water intake occurs then use: SWI = 0 and n = 3.
  • Intake Sustainability Ratio is calculated for direct (supply chain) and indirect (related overhead) processes.
