Reverse Logistics

Reverse Logistics is the Supply Chain Configuration Strategy that enables products to be returned to the seller or the seller's agent with the intent to perform maintenance, repair, overhaul or issue a replacement.

A common practice for businesses is to implement dedicated supply chains to manage returns. Key business drivers for Reverse Logistics supply chains include: Value recovery (Asset Efficiency), issue resolution, regulatory compliance and sustainability.

Reverse Logistics is one of the four Supply Chain Configuration Strategies: Make-to-Stock (MTS), Make-to-Order (MTO), Engineer-to-Order (ETO) and Reverse Logistics.

  • Manufacturer product recall
  • Lease return processing
  • In a Retail store: In-store returns
  • In services industry: Scheduled maintenance

Notes

Alternative names include: Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO), Remanufacturing.
