Deliver-From-Stock

The processes associated with order management and order fulfillment for stocked products. This includes order creation, scheduling, transportation scheduling, order picking, packing, shipping and invoicing. Deliver-From-Stock is the Deliver process that facilitates the MTS Supply Chain Strategy. This typically means that for planning purposes demand is aggregated and replenished as generic* stock.

Use Cases

  • Generic products, non-serialized** or where serialized stock is assigned to orders during order picking
  • In a call center: Inquiries and Order entry
  • In a Warehouse: Order picking, packing and shipping for generic stocked items
  • In a Retail store: Shopping and check-out for stocked items

Deliver-From-Stock processes are recommended for businesses where customers do not accept long order cycle times and/or stock-outs: retail, spare parts. Deliver-From-Stock is not a good fit for configurable or specialty products as these products generally require order traceability through the product sourcing, make and delivery processes.

Notes

Deliver-From-Stock may be considered a Push-process as product is positioned in the ship-from location based on planning data. Planning data examples include: min/max replenishment, demand forecasts, seasonality forecasts.

*) Generic stock means that products are received in stock by item number. Typically orders will be allocated specific stock during the pick, pack and ship activities.
